Summer Music–NML’s Staff Favorites

The reassuring  sounds of lawn mowers and sprinklers.  The splashing of blue, cold water and endless waves.  The sizzle of the grill.  The familiar tune of the ice cream truck heralding its longed-for arrival.  Music wafting out of house and car windows…these are the sounds of summer.

To the Nevins Memorial Library staff, summer is truly here when we hear the following songs and musicians:

Cynthia and Kathy both love the light and airy harmonies of the Beach Boys–you can’t get more “beachy” then that!

For mellow, humid days Cynthia thinks of Wynton Marsalis’ “You’re My Everything”.

While “Summer in the City” by the Lovin’ Spoonful and Martha & the Vandellas’ “Heat Wave” mean the heat is on for Beth.  “4th of July” by X and the “Hissing of Summer Lawns” by Joni Mitchell are two more of Beth’s summer favorites.

Clothes Horse Tatjana enjoys Bruce Springstein’s “Girls in their Summer Clothes” and the Porgy and Bess riff on “Summer Time” in Sublime’s “Doin’ Time”.

Jason, one of our Pages, grooves to the California vibes of the Mamas and the Papas as well as the Marvelettes.

For Ashley, this summer means an upcoming Eddie Money concert!

So what songs do YOU enjoy in the summer? Leave a comment to tell us what music summons up sunny, summer days for you.
