Express Yourself Through Graphic Journaling

Come find your creativity & de-stress with Lisa Buglione, Artist, Teacher & Therapist.

In this workshop Lisa will teach us how to express ourselves through “Graphic Journaling.” Research continues to show us that art experiences play a major role in both our physical and mental well being. Journey with us as we express ourselves through the use of Illustration. Art materials & journals will be provided. (Feel free to bring your own materials. )

This workshop is open to both adults and teens. All skill levels are welcome!

Lisa Desharnais-Buglione holds a Bachelor degree from Salem State University in Education with a concentration in Art & Psychology. She also holds a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Human Growth & Development from Wheelock College. Lisa’s youngest student is age 3 and her oldest is 93. Art continues to be her passion as she celebrates her 40th year in her career.

Tiny Art Is For Everyone!

Tiny Art

Starting January 16 you can pick up a Tiny Art Kit from the Main Desk. While supplies last.

They include:

  • 4×4 canvas
  • paint palette with brush
  • pencil
  • entry form

You can use any of the supplies in the kit, as well as anything you have at home. But, please remember that your art must be appropriate for an all ages display in the library (all entries will be reviewed by library staff).

Your completed Art and form can be returned between January 29 – February 16 (there’ll even be a small participation prize!)

The art will then be displayed from February 20 – March 1, 2024. There will be prizes for age group, staff favorite, and patron favorite!  Awards are announced February 26.

If you would like your art back after it’s on display, you can pick it up between March 2 – March 9, 2024.

Rene Magritte’s work delighted and fascinated audiences long before Paul Simon’s famous song. This program will focus on the life and influences of the Belgian Surrealist painter whose paintings are both familiar and confounding. Discover the ways his work relates to contemporaries like Salvador Dali and learn how art historians interpret his mysterious paintings.

Impressionist artists are celebrated for their beautiful depictions of nature, but they also frequented the cafes, bars and nightclubs of Paris and captured modern life in their works. This program will explore the images by Monet, Renoir, Degas and others and consider how the hub of activity in Parisian cafes inspired some of the world’s most famous artists.

Lecture & Display: Love in Metal

Love in Metal: Abraham Megerdichian Machined Metal Miniatures

TUESDAY, JANUARY 17 6:30—8:00 PM

Join us in-person for a talk on the life and metal art of Abraham Megerdichian.

His son Robert will “speak with” his deceased father about Abraham’s hobby of machining solid scrap metal into his interpretations of everyday objects.

You can also check out displays of some of those items and photos throughout the library from January 9th until February 23rd.

Abraham was a Navy sailor, avid gardner, stamp collector, promoter of Armenian culture and language, bicyclist around Fresh Pond, and machinist. Abe machined from solid scrap metal his hundreds of interpretations of everyday objects. He gave them to family and friends as gifts from the 1950s until his passing in 1983. Abe’s ar has been exhibited throughout New England and beyond.

Norman Rockwell: Inclusion, Exclusion and Evolving Views on Race

Tuesday February 9, 2021 at 7pm

Toward the end of his career, Rockwell painted several poignant works about race in America that can be seen as an extension of his earlier sense of the power of inclusion and exclusion. Join us as Jane Oneail teaches us all about Norman Rockwell and his evolving views on race during his career.

Jane Oneail is an independent scholar and holds a master’s in Art History from Boston University and a master’s in Art in Education from Harvard University. Jane is a New Hampshire native and has worked at some of the state’s most esteemed cultural institutions, including the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, where she served as Executive Director, and the Currier Museum of Art, where she held the role of Senior Educator. Jane has also taught at the college level for more than a decade, most recently at the NH Institute of Art.
